The GaiaDAO team is proud to announce that we have successfully completed two donations — $10,000 donated so far!
We created Gaia DAO because we wanted to create a platform that allows individual investors to impact positive change on the Earth, while themselves still benefiting from traditional DeFi products.
We also wanted to support multiple causes, with a focus on donating to less well known Non Profits Organizations. It has been amazing to watch our vision become reality, having already donated $10,000 USD since launching on the 1st of May!
The GaiaDAO team believe that these donations represent the future crowd funding, with blockchain technology allowing us to unite like minded individuals into one cohesive community, with the common goal of fighting for our Earth.
One of the best aspects of Gaia is that we launched as a DAO. We wanted our community members to be able to have a say in who we donate to and it has been really interesting to see how the community has voted so far.
What is a DAO?
A DAO is a Decentralized Autonomous Organization. It is a way for community members to vote anonymously using a governance token.
This allows us to take a snapshot of our $GAIA token holders at any one point in time. Those holders who are part of the snapshot then get to vote, with the amount of $GAIA determining how much voting power they have.
Who have we donated to?
Our first donation of $5,000 included three charities: The Water Project, Orangutan Outreach and The Rainforest Foundation, with The Water Project winning the vote and getting the full $5,000. Although it was amazing to be able to donate to such an important cause, we felt like the other two charities missed out.
For the second donation of $5,000 we decided to allocate a percentage to each organization based on the votes from the community.
This vote was between Orangutan Outreach, The Rainforest Foundation and World Vision. Doing it this way seems to be the fairest way of representing the community votes, as each organization receives a percentage of the donation money and every community member’s vote made a difference.
What’s next?
The next voting round will be coming up soon, so if you haven’t already, go to the GaiaDAO Snapshot page and connect your preferred wallet. When the next vote goes live you simply pick who you want to vote for and then sign the transaction when prompted by Metamask or Trust Wallet.
The more $GAIA you own the bigger your voting power becomes. It also doesn’t cost anything to vote! There will be a full guide coming soon for how to use Snapshot. Until then, feel free to come ask us on Discord or Telegram for help if you get stuck.
